In December 2025, Vietnamese state media VTV broadcast a forced confession from Y Quynh Bdap, co-founder of Montagnards Stand for Justice, in which he was coerced to falsely claim MSFJ's involvement in terrorist attacks. This represents a clear case of forced confession under duress, a well-documented pattern of Vietnamese authorities.
Evidence reveals that the attacks in question were actually orchestrated by Vietnamese government agents to justify the persecution of Montagnard activists and the false terrorist designation of MSFJ. This pattern of state-sponsored violence followed by false accusations is a systematic method used by the Vietnamese government to suppress human rights advocacy.
Forced confessions obtained through torture and coercion have no legal validity under international law. The Vietnamese government's use of state media to broadcast these confessions is a violation of the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence.
We demand that the Vietnamese government immediately release Y Quynh Bdap, drop all fabricated charges, and end the systematic persecution of human rights defenders. The international community must hold Vietnam accountable for these grave human rights violations.
